Third time lucky

The first time I met Josh he had long hair that was possibly wider than it was long. He didn’t say much to me though I seem to remember he was having girlfriend problems, as were two of the other guys on the guys night out. Yes I did get to hear about them all! It was my big brother friends birthday and supposedly boys only. I gate-crashed and made them all dance with me in turn; even though there was not a single other soul on the dance floor and we were in Crystals. Finally having danced with all my brothers other friends I turned to Josh and insisted that just because it was the first time we had met that was no excuse not to dance with me. Our dance was interrupted by a ‘good friend’ of mine and that was it, not the best start I admit. A few weeks later I passed Josh in the bus station, he had had his hair cut and it really suited him, so much so that I did a double take and was only sure it was him when he said hello! Well for me it really was third time lucky because the third time I met Josh we were very drunk in crystals and he swore that he only kissed me as it was the only way to stop me talking! Well, that didn’t stop him phoning me every night for almost a week. I finally worked up the courage to phone him back and was much put out when he answered, I had my message all prepared as I wasn’t allowed to have my phone on at dinner time, oh well. Our first date was at the garage with my friend Anita, I explained that I was going away to university in a few months so not looking for a relationship (I was only 17!) and I paid for the drinks all night. Well he soon made up for that by taking me to see the Matrix then to Crystals (we went there A LOT that summer, and beyond actually). Then he went on holiday. I was so sure he would forget me, that he would come back and I’d nerve hear from him; I really wasn’t very observant or clever even then. It was whilst he was away that I realised that I was in love. I missed him so much and I was so worried that he wouldn’t get in touch on his return. I’m sure I drove my friend’s nuts. Well he cameand came straight to the pub to see me. I was ecstatic and he had brought me a present, a necklace with my name on it and it was even spelt right! From then on we were in love, a couple, each others world. We had our ups and downs, he had his moments and I had many more. But that was the beginning, and I think it was pretty good considering we were only 17.
