The Key was where all the cool kids went, or so I have always been told. As it was my brother's favourite haunt I was only allowed to go if said brother's band were playing ‘on stage’. Jonathan however was obviously one of the cool kids as he spent many an afternoon and evening at the Key mostly staying out of trouble. Apparently being 6’2” means you can’t avoid trouble all the time, it was never his fault honest! It was at the Key that he met Brian, the drummer of their infamous band ‘Give Us A Light’. As well as being a most important member of the band Brian became one of the most important members of Jonathan's life, remaining to this day one of his closest friends. In between playing his guitar, playing pool and getting into a little trouble (well what teenager doesn’t? ) Jonathan made yet more friends. A bit of a loner myself I always was and continued to be surprised by the number of genuine friends that Jonathan had. I gave up trying to remember everyone’s names. It was impossible to go out without meeting at least half a dozen people Jonathan knew, many of them from the Key. It was also at the Key that Jonathan met Ian. A fellow guitarist turned bassist who once said to Jonathan ‘If it had to be one of my friends then I’m glad it was you’ He was talking about the fact that Jonathan had by then become the love of Ian’s little sister's life. Always knew Ian had good taste.
